The Father of Angklung Daeng Sutigna first created the diatonic angklung in 1938. Kesenian angklung adalah sebuah seni pertunjukan yang melibatkan banyak orang, maka diperlukan sebuah kerjasama yang apik antar anggotanya, dengan berbagai keterampilannya, untuk membentuk sebuah penampilan yang menarik dan menghibur. Salah satu keterampilan yang perlu dimiliki oleh seorang pemain angklung adalah keterampilan psikomotorik.

Keterampilan psikomotor adalah kemampuan tubuh merenspon berbagai stimulus atau sinyal-sinyal yang terjadi di lingkungan sekitar. Seringkali disebut juga sensorimotor atau perceptual-motor skill.

Mengapa seorang pemain angklung perlu memiliki keterampilan psikomotor yang baik? Seseorang dapat disebut bermain angklung dengan baik bila mampu memberi respon yang sesuai terhadap berbagai stimulus yang timbul pada saat pertunjukan angklung.

Apa saja stimulus yang ada pada sebuah pertunjukan angklung? Pertama, stimulus auditori, yaitu stimulus berupa rangkaian nada, yang membentuk sebuah komposisi musik. Pemain angklung yang baik akan mengenal nada-nada tersebut, dan mengenal bagian dimana dia harus membunyikan angklungnya. Kedua, stimulus visual, yaitu stimulus yang datang dari dirijen yang memimpin grup angklung. Pemain angklung yang baik akan mengenal instruksi dari dirijen melalui berbagai gerak tubuhnya, dan menuruti instruksi tersebut dengan baik, tanpa mengalami gangguan konsentrasi dalam memainkan angklungnya secara benar dan akurat. Ketiga, stimulus psikologis, yaitu stimulus untuk berperilaku atau sikap tubuh yang sesuai pada saat pertunjukan angklung. Misalnya, tuntutan untuk memberikan senyum pada saat pentas, atau sikap tubuh ketika membunyikan angklung, atau sikap yang diambil ketika tiba-tiba memainkan nada yang salah, dan lainnya.

Semua sikap yang baik dalam dalam sebuah pertunjukkan angklung adalah sebuah keterampilan yang dapat dilatih. Dengan program latihan yang terprogram dan terencana, maka keterampilan ini akan berkembang dan memberikan identitas tersendiri bagi pribadi pemain angklung. Diharapkan dapat terbentuk pribadi yang professional, empatik, dan simpatik. We first make our habit, then habit makes us.

Lalu faktor apa saja yang berpengaruh pada proses pembentukan keterampilan psikomotorik pemain angklung? Menurut Clyde Everett Noble, seorang ahli psikologi, ada enam faktor yang mempengaruhi keterampilan psikomotorik. Pertama, frekuensi latihan, satu hal yang mempengaruhi proses belajar secara umum adalah repetisi (pengulangan). Semakin sering dan teraturnya latihan, maka keterampilan pun akan semakin terasah.
