The Father of Angklung Daeng Sutigna first created the diatonic angklung in 1938. BANDUNG, TRIBUN — Daeng Soetigna, penemu angklung diatonis-kromatis pantas dijadikan sebagai tokoh bangsa karena telah menciptakan alat musik yang mengandung filosofi hidup yang tinggi.
 
"Pantas jika Daeng Soetigna dijadikan sebagai tokoh bangsa karena berhasil mengangkat watak pemuda dengan angklung," ungkap staf Kementerian Pemuda dan Olahraga Jauhari Arifin mewakili Menteri Pemuda dan Olahraga RI Adhyaksa Dault saat membuka acara penghormatan untuk Daeng Soetigna di Saung Angklung Udjo, Jl Padasuka Bandung, Sabtu (20/12).

Menurut dia, moral atau watak Daeng Soetigna kini melekat dan diteruskan oleh para anak didiknya. Angklung yang diciptakan Daeng Soetigna mengandung filosofi hidup yang tinggi seperti ajaran tentang menciptakan kebersamaan, toleransi, dan kerja sama antarsesama manusia.

Ia mengatakan, dari filosofi yang ada pada alat musik angklung, diharapkan keberagaman tidak menimbulkan perpecahan tetapi justru menjadi pemersatu yang dapat menciptakan sebuah keharmonisan hidup.

Penghormatan terhadap Daeng Soetigna direalisasikan dalam sebuah acara yang mengambil tema "Daeng Soetigna: A-trail Top Inovation In World Music History". Acara penghormatan terhadap Daeng Soetigna ini akan diisi oleh berbagai jenis kegiatan seminar yang dipandu oleh musisi Dwiki Dharmawan.

Sebelumnya, dalam acara pembukaan tersebut, ditampilkan beberapa pertunjukan angklung melibatkan siswa SD, SMA, mahasiswa Unisba. Daeng Soetigna pada 1968 menerima Satyalancana Kebudayaan dari Presiden Soeharto dan pada 2007 menerima Anugerah Bintang Budaya Parama Dharma dari Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Angklung diatonis yang kini terkenal di mancanegara, untuk pertama kali diciptakan Daeng Soetigna pada 1938 di Kuningan. Pembuatan angklung tersebut diawali dengan kisah dua pengemis yang datang ke rumah Daeng Soetigna di Kuningan. Di depan Daeng, kedua pengemis tersebut memainkan angklung pentatonis.

Bunyi angklung tersebut membuat hati Daeng tergetar. Daeng kemudian membeli dua angklung pentatonis yang menarik perhatiannya itu seusai dimainkan kedua pengamen tersebut. Ketika dua angklung pentatonis ada di tangannya, pikiran Daeng mulai bekerja, yakni ingin membuat angklung diatonis. Persoalan timbul karena secara teknis Daeng tidak bisa membuat angklung. Untuk mengatasi persoalan tersebut, Daeng kemudian belajar kepada pakar angklung bernama Djaya yang sudah berumur 80 tahun.

Setelah bisa membuat angklung, pikiran Daeng Soetigna melayang pada tangga nada diatonis. Ia kemudian berupaya sedemikian rupa membuat angklung yang bertangga nada diatonis. Bekal Daeng Soetigna membuat angklung diatonis berawal dari kepiawaiannya menguasai beberapa alat musik yang berasal dari Barat, seperti gitar dan juga piano.

Ketika Daeng Soetigna berhasil membuat angklung diatonis, ia secara tidak langsung telah menyumbangkan sebuah alat musik baru ke dunia seni yang diciptakan dari bahan lokal.(*)
