The Father of Angklung Daeng Sutigna first created the diatonic angklung in 1938. 40 HARI DI EROPA (Kickandy.com, 23 Juni 2008) Print E-mail

Ini bukanlah kisah perjalanan hura-hura yang menyenangkan, tapi sebuah kisah perjuangan anak-anak muda asal Bandung, Jawa Barat, dalam sebuah “mission impossible”, melanglang Eropa demi menebar pesona budaya angklung di jagat internasional. Dengan budget yang sangat defisit, mereka menggelandang selama 40 hari di sana.Mereka pulang kembali ke Indonesia dengan piala ”Cipuaga” sebuah penghargaan bergengsi di festival Zakopane di Polandia. Ironisnya saat pulang mereka masih meninggalkan sejumlah utang yang harus dibayar.

Angklung tak sekedar bunyi dari batang bambu, di balik semua kekhasan nada-nada yang dilahirkan, angklung memiliki sebuah pesona yang memikat, tak hanya bagi kita sebagai warga Indonesia, tapi juga para expatriat. Setidaknya, ini lah yang diakui oleh Mattew, seorang warga negara asal New Zealand. ”Bagi saya suaranya sangat khas dan unik, sangat berbeda dari jenis musik lainnya,” katanya.

Tak hanya Mattew, Expatriat asal Philipina, Riza bahkan mengaku bulak-balik ke Indonesia untuk urusan belajar angklung. Mattew & Riza sama-sama belajar angklung di Saung Aklung Mang Ujo di Bandung. ”Beberapa tahun ini makin banyak expatriat yang datang belajar angklung di sanggar kami,” kata Taufik Ujo, pengurus Saung Angklung Mang Ujo.

Saat tampil di Kick Andy, Mattew & Riza terlihat sangat piawai bermain angklung. Mereka membawakan lagu ”Biarlah” milik grup musik Nidji. Sementara grup musik angklung Pelangi-Pelangi yang tiga personilnya berasal dari Jepang, tampil dengan lagu ”Sukiyaki”.

Memang makin banyak expatriat belajar bermain angklung, dan bagi sebagian orang ini cukup untuk menilai bahwa musik angklung sudah semakin mendunia. Tapi anak-anak muda yang tergabung dalam Kelompok Paduan Angklung SMA 3 Bandung atau KPA 3, memiliki cara sendiri untuk menebar pesona angklung ke antero dunia. Mereka melakukan misi kebudayaan yang mereka namakan Expand the Sound of Angklung (ESA) ke manca negara.

Kisah tragis yang menjadi judul dari topik Kick Andy kali ini adalah tentang perjalanan mereka ke Eropa di tahun 2004. Maksud hati ini menduniakan anglung, tapi adaya dana tak cukup. Itulah kiasan yang tepat untuk menggambarkan betapa di awal misi pun sudah terpampang jelas hambatan yang are mereka hadapi. Dan ini pula yang menjadi awal kisah heroik mereka demi tenarnya alunan musik bambu.

Pada awalnya mereka sudah memiliki sponsor untuk membiayai keberangkatan tim yang berjumlah 35 orang itu, namun pada perjalanannya sponsor mengundurkan diri. ”Padahal waktu keberangkatannnya tinggal 2 minggu lagi, dan schedule dengan (some text are missing)
