The Father of Angklung Daeng Sutigna first created the diatonic angklung in 1938. Bambu ternyata bisa menjadi bahan karya seni yang menarik. Itulah yang tampak dalam Braga Festival (Brafest) 2006 yang diadakan di kawasan Jalan Braga, Bandung, sejak Rabu (27/12) sampai Kamis (29/12) petang. Sebuah patung naga dengan matanya yang menyala tampak siap menyambut pengunjung di perempatan Jalan Braga - Naripan.

Patung dari anyaman bambu berukuran panjang 16 meter memang sengaja dipasang untuk menarik perhatian mereka yang melalui jalan tersebut. Tidak hanya itu, hampir di sepanjang menuju Jalan Braga, mulai dari Jalan Asia-Afrika sampai Jalan Naripan, puluhan pohon bambu beserta umbul-umbul anyaman bambu berdiri tegak. Hal itu terkait dengan tema festival kali ini, "Serumpun Bambu Sejuta Makna".

Pemandangan serupa tampak di depan Gedung Yayasan Pusat Kebudayaan (YPK) Bandung. Tanaman bambu berdiri megah di kiri-kanan pintu masuk gedung. Di dalam gedung, suara gesekan rebab dan dentingnya suara kecapi, mengalun lembut mendayu mengiringi delapan orang perempuan tua penari Tarawangsa.

Panitia sengaja menampilkan seni Tarawangsa sebagai pembuka event tahunan Braga Festival 2006. Kedelapan perempuan itu tampak khusyuk mengikuti setiap dentingan kecapi.

Sejurus kemudian, tiga perempuan menyerahkan pemukul kayu kepada Sekda Jabar, Lex Laksamana, Kepala Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Jabar H Budhyana, dan Sekda Kota Bandung Edi Siswadi. Ketiganya pun langsung memukulkan kayunya pada bambu bitung sebagai tanda dimulainya Brafest.

Suara bambu bitung tersebut disambut suara gondang yang dimainkan 10 perempuan tua belasan pemuda memukul jimbe. Tak lama kemudian, arak-arakan kesenian rakyat yang bersumber dari bambu dari 10 kabupaten di Jawa Barat, ke luar mementaskan kebolehannya diikuti seni bela diri dari Brasil, capoeira, dan tataloe percussion.

"Kegiatan ini mampu menjadikan Kota Bandung sebagai daya tarik wisata, baik wisatawan lokal maupun mancanegara. Tahun lalu, sejumlah wisatawan mancanegara, khususnya dari Eropa datang ke Bandung, hanya untuk menikmati acara ini," tutur Lex dalam sambutannya.

Dia juga mengharapkan agar festival itu dapat mengangkat citra positif Bandung bagi wisatawan mancanegara, asalkan kemasan Brafest bisa ditingkatkan dari tahun ke tahun. Walaupun baru dua kali penyelenggaraan, kegiatan ini bisa menjadi penanda kebangkitan Kota Bandung khususnya, dan Jawa Barat pada umumnya, di bidang kepariwisataan.

Mengenal Potensi

Sementara itu, Kepala Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Jawa Barat, H Budhyana menjelaskan, tema "Serumpun Bambu Sejuta Makna" sengaja diangkat dalam event Brafest kali ini. Pasalnya, masyarakat Jawa Barat selama hidupnya tidak pernah lepas dari bambu.

"Sebanyak 95 dari 105 jenis bambu di Indonesia berada di Jawa Barat. Namun tidak banyak orang yang mengetahuinya ataupun menggunakannya dengan baik," kata Wawan Juanda, kreator Braga Festival.

Wawan menjelaskan, dari 1.000 spesies bambu di 80 negara, Indonesia memiliki koleksi bambu terbanyak. Hanya sayang, tanaman itu belum dimanfaatkan secara maksimal. "Semua spesies bambu memiliki fungsi dan manfaat yang berbeda. Ada yang dimanfaatkan untuk perkakas dapur, membangun rumah, hingga bidang musik. Sekarang juga, kami merasa prihatin setelah mendengar bahwa musik angklung yang sudah puluhan tahun dikembangkan Mang Udjo akan dipatenkan oleh Malaysia," ia menambahkan.

Melalui Braga Festival 2006, Wawan bermaksud mengajak masyarakat untuk lebih mengenal peran, fungsi, serta potensi bambu di Indonesia. Hal itu ia paparkan dalam berbagai elemen seperti musik dan seni. Dalam acara itu juga dipamerkan 26 jenis bambu koleksi Yayasan Bambu Indonesia.
