The Father of Angklung Daeng Sutigna first created the diatonic angklung in 1938. BAMBU MENJADI IKON BUDAYA PLURAL
SEBAGAI MUSIK, POPULER DI BERBAGAI LAPISAN MASYARAKAT

KARANGANYAR, KOMPAS - Sejak ratusan tahun lalu Bambu mengiringi berbagai aktivitas masyarakat Indonesia. Selain menjadi identitas, bambu juga menjadi ikon budaya plural masyarakat di Tanah Air. Bambu dikenal untuk berbagai fungsi. Bahkan sebagai musik, bambu sangat dekat dan populer di masyarakat mulai dari musik bambu tradisional hingga kontemporer.

Sayangnya, meskipun mencipta kultur musik tersendiri yang lekat dengan kebudayaan daerah masing-masing, hingga kini apresiasi dan penghargaan masyarakat terhadap musik bambu masih minim. Bahkan stigma musik bambu sebagai musik masyarakat daerah pinggiran masih tetap melekat.

Pandangan ini mengemuka dalam diskusi dengan topik "Musik Bambu Kini" di Pendopo Garasi Seni Benawa, kediaman pemusik tradisi/komposer Rahayu Supanggah, di Palur, Karanganyar, Rabu (18/7). Diskusi yang dipandu musisi Sonoseni Ensemble Joko S Gombloh menampilkan narasumber Rahayu Supanggah dan komponis I Wayan Sadra.

Diskusi yang digelar Republic of Entertainment bekerja sama dengan harian Kompas, Ajang Gelar Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Surakarta, dan Garasi Seni Benawa, ini merupakan rangkaian kegiatan "Road To Bambu NusantJakarta International Expara: World Music Festival" yang akan digelar di Jakarta pada 18-19 Juli 2007 Rahayu Supanggah menilai bambu memberikan banyak manfaat bagi masyarakat. Sebagai musik, bambu diibaratkan masih perawan dan memiliki potensi-potensi yang luar biasa, yang digunakan pemusik tradisional hingga kontemporer.

"Kegiatan World Music Festival sangat positif dan dapat menjadi momen yang sangat tepat untuk membuat musik bambu mendunia. Angklung misalnya, kini sudah mendunia. Bahkan di Australia, angklung sangat populer di kalangan anak-anak dan masuk kurikulum sekolah," ujar dia.

I Wayan Sadra berpendapat, saat ini bambu merupakan bentuk musik yang sudah banyak berlaras atau serakan-serakan bunyi yang fungsional. "Sebagai komponis saya melihat bagaimana alat-alat yang tidak jelas nadanya disusun seluruh elemen bunyinya menjadi kesatuan komposisi yang utuh," ujar dia.

Wawan Juanda, Presiden Republic of Entertaiment, mengatakan "Bambu Nusantara World Music Festival bertujuan mengangkat kekayaan bambu Nusantara serta bagaimana hubungan antara bambu dengan kehidupan masyarakat Indonesia, terutama di bidang seni.

Kegiatan ini akan menampilkan berbagai atraksi, antara lain World Music Performance, Seruling Nusantara, Indi(genous) Spot, seminar, dan lokakarya bertema bambu, pameran bambu, pameran makanan dan kerajinan, lomba foto, dan Festival Umbul-umbul. (SON)
