The Father of Angklung Daeng Sutigna first created the diatonic angklung in 1938. Until now, angklung still has to face many challenges of identity to be acknowledged as one of world’s standard music instruments. ImageHarum pohon bambu begitu terasa. Terlebih saat suara gesekan antara pohon bambu satu dan yang lainnya terdengar begitu jelas. Di sela-sela suara gesekan bambu itu muncul perpaduan alunan suara indah yang bersumber dari sekelompok anak yang sedang memainkan angklung.

Mereka memainkan alat musik tradisional itu di Saung Angklung Udjo, salah satu sentral kesenian angklung di Jawa Barat. Meski ketenaran budaya kesenian Sunda ini mulai memudar di kalangan anak muda, namun sesungguhnya, sudah banyak hasil karya yang dihasilkan saung ini. Bahkan Saung Udjo sudah tersohor hingga ke mancanegara seperti Jepang, Malaysia, Eropa, dan Amerika Serikat.

Ketenaran Saung Angklung Udjo tidak seterang keberadaan angklung di Tanah Air. Bahkan kini angklung diperebutkan oleh negara jiran. Malaysia dengan Truly Asia-nya, dengan serius mempelajari jenis kesenian kaya khasanah ini. Terakhir, Malaysia pun mengklaim angklung adalah jenis musik dari negaranya.

Tekad Malaysia tidak hanya memperjuangkan hak paten di mata internasional, mereka pun belajar dengan giat dan menanam bambu yang sama termasuk mengolah teknologi untuk mempercepat pembuatan angklung.

Pemerintahan Malaysia pun mendukung penuh, sehingga memberikan banyak kemudahan. ''Saya pernah dua kali diminta Malaysia bekerja untuknya,'' ujar Direktur Saung Angklung Udjo, Taufik Hidayat. Katanya, ada dua pilihan yang ditawarkan Malaysia saat itu, yakni ia beserta sejumlah seniman Saung Udjo pindah ke sana atau Malaysia mengirimkan orangnya ke Saung Udjo untuk belajar. Uang dan fasilitas yang ditawarkan oleh Malaysia, kata Taufik, sangat besar dan pemerintah Indonesia tidak pernah menawarkan hal semacam itu.

Taufik mengatakan tawaran itu bermula ketika Saung Udjo tampil di Kerajaan Negeri Johor. Karena dinilai bagus, mereka kembali diminta main di tempat lain di Malaysia. ''Rupanya mereka tertarik dan meminta kami tinggal di sana,'' paparnya.

Taufik mengaku tidak menyalahkan Malaysia, karena yang dilakukan mereka wajar. Namun, seharusnya kejadian ini menjadi peringatan bagi Indonesia, karena bukan hanya bahan baku yang terancam, tapi sumber daya alam pun semakin menipis. Pemerintahan Malaysia, kata dia, tidak seperti pemerintahan Indonesia yang hanya mengumbar janji. Dengan serius mereka mendukung penampilan angklung Malaysia keliling dunia. Selain itu, grup angklung Malaysia didukung oleh berbagai sponsor.

Sebenarnya, lanjut dia, sumber daya manusia dan alam Indonesia lebih hebat dibanding Malaysia. Namun kelemahan Indonesia adalah keseriusan pemerintah dan kebiasaan masyarakat yang malas menjaga budaya asli sendiri. Padahal, Taufik mempunyai impian angklung seperti wayang golek yang mendapat pengakuan dari UNESCO.

Angklung merupakan alat musik dengan sarat makna yang mendalam. Filosofi dari angklung, menurut Taufik, adalah gotong royong dan alat musik pendidikan. Meskipun angklung alat musik tradisional, namun bisa dimainkan di segala situasi oleh siapa pun. ''Belajar dan bermain angklung sangat menyenangkan,'' ujarnya. (ren)
