News affecting OFW's (ofw.balita.ph) Traditional "angklung" music from West Java province, played by members of the Civil Servants Wives Association (Dharma Wanita) at the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin, lustred up an "ASEAN Night 2006" at the Sonny Center, Postdam Platz, in Frankfurt on Friday.
An official at the Indonesian Consulate General in
Frankfurt, Indratno Siswoyo, told ANTARA here by phone that ASEAN Night
was held to introduce the cultural diversity of ASEAN's 10 member
countries to the German community.
Organized by the Berlin ASEAN Committee (BAC), the ASEAN Night 2006 was
attended by Reinhard Silberg of the Gernman Foreigh Affairs Ministry,
some 250 local government officials and private sector people,
ambassadors of friendly countries and ASEAN countries' embassy staff
members.
According to Indratno, the angklung music performance got enthusisastic
applause from the ASEAN Night audience. Some of the spectators later
even expressed their wish to know more about the beautiful sound of the
bamboo instrument.
A few of the spectators were so intrigued by the simple musical instrument that they tried to play it themselves.
The Indonesian Embassy in Berlin also promoted Indonesia's tourism and
culture by exhibiting various tourist objects, handicrafts and typical
Indonesian cuisine. (PNA/Antara)
