The Father of Angklung Daeng Sutigna first created the diatonic angklung in 1938. Until now, angklung still has to face many challenges of identity to be acknowledged as one of world’s standard music instruments. One major problem is that there is no firm standard yet in constructing, tuning, forming, playing, and compositing angklung. Another problem is that until today, an angklung music community as a media of education and industrialization of the angklung music hasn’t been founded yet. Through this website we would like to ask you who have a great concern to the development of angklung to pass this piece of information to the world in order to support this developing music instrument. Through this website we would like to convey an angklung-ical activity to an angklung team or community and hopefully someday the industrialization of angklung can be realized. WHY PLAYING ANGKLUNG HAS MANY POSITIVE POINTS AND COULD MAKE HAPPINESS? Print E-mail
Because one piece only plays one single tone, angklung is commonly played together in a team. Each player significantly contributes by playing his (her) notes. That’s why cohessiveness and teamwork are highly required in an angklung team.

Once these two has presented in the team, they will feel satisfaction and be moved everytime they play a song beautifully and harmonously. These feelings are a unique appeal of angklung that we cannot find in other music instruments.

When you play angklung together, you will hear an amazingly beautiful and harmonious sound.

According to Daeng Soetigna, there are five words (5 Ms) which describe best this instrument :

1.    Mudah (Easy)

It’s very easy to play angklung. It doesn’t require special skills like piano or violin. Just simply play it!

2.    Murah (Inexpensive)

One big set of angklung can be played by a group. Piano or violin, on the other hand, can only be played by one player with more expensive cost per unit.

3.    Menarik (Interesting)

Besides its unique shape and characters, the interesting things about angklung is the way you play it in groups, the spread tones, and its exotic sound.

4.    Massal (mass)

Angklung is commonly played together in groups (mass).

5.    Mendidik (Educative)

Being played in groups, angklung educates the players to be disciplined, to work in team, and to have tolerance. This builds a positive character in the team.
