Pada mulanya untuk mengusir kejenuhan di rumah ketika para suami berangkat kerja, sekelompok ibu rumah tangga asal Jepang yang tinggal di Jakarta berkenalan dengan angklung. Kini belasan kelompok musik angklung yang personelnya perempuan Jepang telah terbentuk di Indonesia maupun di Negeri Sakura.

Di Jepang saja, sejak 10 tahun terakhir, sudah ada sekitar 10 kelompok musik angklung. Mereka umumnya perempuan Jepang yang pernah tinggal di Indonesia. Sementara di Jakarta terdapat sekitar 7 kelompok. Ada yang sudah berkiprah selama 15 tahun, yaitu Melodi Manis. Ada pula kelompok Edelweiss, yang baru beberapa bulan terbentuk dan baru bisa menampilkan satu lagu.

Ketujuh kelompok musik angklung itu, termasuk Pelangi-Pelangi serta kelompok dari Indonesia (Jakarta dan Bandung), Kamis (18 Mei 2006), tampil dalam pagelaran bersama (joint concert) di Aula Wisma PKBI Jakarta.

"Konser bersama macam ini bisa mempererat hubungan kebudayaan kedua negara", ungkap pengaransemen Shunichi Isogane, yang menetap di Tokyo. Upaya Shunichi dan kawan-kawan menggagas acara itu patut dihargai, karena dapat terwujud secara swadaya.

Berbulan-bulan Shunichi mempersiapkan konser itu. Dari Tokyo ia terus-menerus memantau latihan beberapa kelompok angklung di Jakarta. "Mereka mengirim rekaman video latihannya, lalu saya mengomentari melalui e-mail", ujar Shunichi Isogane.

Menurut Shunichi, ibu-ibu rumah tangga tersebut tidak kesulitan memberlajari musik bambu dari Jawa Barat itu. Sebab masyarakat Jepang juga sangat akrab dengan bambu. Orang Jepang, misalnya, punya alat musik tiup dari bambu yang disebut shakuhachi.

Arumba

Orkestra yang ditampilkan sembilan kelompok musik angklung di Wisma PKBI itu lebih populer dengan sebutan arumba, singkatan dari "alunan rumpun bambu".

Instrumennya memang didominasi alat musik yang diambil dari rumpun bambu, seperti angklung melodi, gambang bambu, dan bas bambu. Selebihnya perkusi untuk mempertegas ritme, atau instrumen lain yang dimainkan sesuai jenis lagunya. Seperti ketika kelompok Etnika Swara membawakan komposisi Kroncong Telomoyo, perkusi tidak dimainkan dan diganti cello.

Menurut Budi Abdulrahman, salah seorang pelatih angklung, arumba merupakan pengembangan dari angklung Padaeng yang dimainkan minimal oleh 30 orang. "Arumba lebih sederhana, dan bisa dimainkan hanya dengan lima atau tujuh orang", jelas Budi.

Angklung Padaeng ataupun arumba, Shunichi yakin musik tradisional Tanah Pasundan itu bisa mempererat persahabatan Indonesia-Jepang.
