WHAT IS ANGKLUNG?
Angklung is a music instrument made of bamboo which plays the tone when shaked, and one instrument plays one tone. It is an idiophone instrument.

WHAT IS PENTATONIC ANGKLUNG?
Pentatonic angklung is the angklung of sundanesse society (and also from other parts of Indonesia), and has five traditional tones and that’s why it is called pentatonic (five tones). Among them are pelog, salendro, madenda.

WHAT IS ANGKLUNG PADAENG?
The founding father of diatonic angklung, Daeng Sutigna, started to create the diatonic-chromatic version of angklung in 1937. Like the other world’s music instruments (piano, organ, violin, etc), it has seven tones.

The kind of angklung that will be mostly explained in this website is diatonic angklung (angklung padaeng). The next word “angklung” refers to diatonic angklung (=angklung padaeng).
Angklung Padaeng has become a diatonic-chromatic instrument, like the other world’s standard music instruments.
Daeng Sutigna made the diatonic angklung in two groups : melodic angklung (one angklung plays one tone) and accompagnement angklung (one angklung plays one chord). Here is some brief tips to play angklung correctly.
